It’s hard to believe that a River named Ouse can be described as beautiful and one of the City’s major attractions, but the York Boat River Cruises are just that. It’s certainly a pleasant way to chill out on a nice summers day.
A different perspective on the city, seeing the old buildings and passages that lead to the river makes you realise the significance of York’s location, chosen by the Romans at the junction of the Foss and the Ouse. York was a centre of power for the Romans and Vikings in the north, in no small part, because it was navigable by boat from the North Sea via the Humber.
